Our Cub Scout Pack has up to 24 boys and girls aged between 8 and 10½ years old. We meet on a Friday during term time at the Scout Hall by St Mary’s Church, Battle.
Cubs wear a uniform and after a few weeks learning about Scouting and agreeing to make the Cub promise, they are invested into our Pack.
The Cubs enjoy a wide range of activities within small groups called Sixes. They are encouraged to learn some new skills while having fun and they work towards the Chief Scout Silver award. Types of activities have included in the past – simple map work following a route around Battle Great Woods, visiting the lifeboat station in Hastings, team games on the recreation ground, constructing and flying a small hot air balloon, cooking sausages over a fire, ironing their neckerchief, basic first aid, short camping trips, parties, craft activities and of course lots of games.
Our activities are planned into a balanced programme so each Cub has a chance to achieve their Challenge Badges. These are completed by taking part in the regular programme we offer but also require the Cubs to do extra activities and camps outside of meetings.
When all 7 Challenge badges and at least 6 Activity badges have been earnt, then the Cub is awarded their Chief Scouts Silver Award which is the highest award a Cub can earn.
