Our Scout Troop has up to 24 boys and girls aged between 10½ – 14 years old. Scouts meet on a Friday during term time at the Scout Hall by St Mary’s Church, Battle.

Scouts wear a uniform and after a few weeks learning about Scouting and agreeing to make the Scout promise, they are invested into our Troop.

Scouts work within small groups called “Patrols”. A Scout called a Patrol Leader leads the Patrol and works with the Leadership Team in setting the programme and in decisions affecting the Troop. The Patrol system is one of the important ways that young people can take responsibility for themselves and others.

We provide and encourage the Scouts to take part in a mix of active, creative, indoor and outdoor activities so each Scout has a chance to achieve their Challenge Badges. These are completed by taking part in the regular programme we offer but also require the Scouts to do extra activities and camps outside of meetings.

Scouting has a reputation as an outdoor organisation based on strong traditions of camping and other outdoor pursuits.  We offer our Troop a number of events away from home during the year. These are important to the life of the Troop, as they are the culmination of much of the training during the year.

When all 9 Challenge badges and at least 6 Activity badges have been earnt, then the Scout is awarded their Chief Scouts Gold Award which is the highest award a Scout can earn.
